SUBSCRIBE NOW Virtuoso Series in partnership with the School of Music "Pure gold, shot through with tenderness and grace." – San Francisco Chronicle Grammy-winning Akropolis Reed Quintet is redefining chamber music with bold artistry, inventive programming, and an unwavering commitment to new music. Praised by BBC Music Magazine as “a sonically daring ensemble,” the group has commissioned and premiered more than 200 works, helping establish the reed quintet as one of today’s most exciting classical ensembles. Founded at the University of Michigan and still performing with its original five members, Akropolis has appeared on leading stages across North America and earned national acclaim for its innovative recordings, including a Grammy-winning collaboration on Are We Dreaming the Same Dream?. With virtuosity, imagination, and infectious energy, Akropolis delivers performances that are as adventurous as they are engaging. Utilizing their “sheer musical imagination” – Gramophone, the quintet is also known for powerful collaborations with youth and others within its Southeast Michigan community, including a summer festival called Together We Sound, high school music composition residencies, and a Chamber Music Institute focused on artist training and mentorship.
